Cotecna Awarded US SAFETY Act Designation

    GENEVA, Sept. 4 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- The US
Department of Homeland Security awarded Cotecna a
Certificate of SAFETY Act Designation for their C-TPAT
Third Party Validation services.  Jay Cohen, the Under
Secretary of Homeland Security for Science and Technology,
conferred the designation on 28 August 2007.  This
designation identifies Cotecna's C-TPAT Third Party
Validation services as "Qualified Anti-Terrorism
Technology". 

    The SAFETY Act (Support Anti-Terrorism by Fostering
Effective Technologies Act) provides liability protections
for providers of Qualified Anti-Terrorism Technologies --
whether they are products or services. The goal of the
SAFETY Act is to encourage the development and deployment
of new and innovative anti-terrorism products and services
by providing liability protections. 

    The Cotecna services covered in this Designation
include validation of supply chain activities' compliance
with C-TPAT requirements.  Under the guidelines for the US
Customs and Border Protection (CBP) C-TPAT Third Party
Validation Pilot Program, Cotecna will work in conjunction
with US importers to validate C-TPAT compliance of
manufacturing and transportation companies in China, where
CBP has been unable to conduct these operations.
