The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People
Dr. S.R.Covey, the author of "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" that has sold more than 15,000,000 copies worldwide and nearly 1,000,000 copies in Japan, recently came to Japan to hold lectures in Tokyo and Osaka. In these lectures Dr. Covey insisted on two principles on which his book "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" stood. Below are the summaries of his lectures.
Stating the pain brought about by the recent changes of Japanese societies first, in which social restructuring is on its way and the lifelong employment system is collapsing, Dr. Covey subsequently explained the necessity of nurturing each individual's nobleness such as honesty or courage, and of restoring the organizational confidence in which not management but empowerment works.
For the first time in five years since he first visited Japan, Dr. Covey, a worldly famous consultant of human education and management, lectured about 2,000 businessmen and students eager to get some inspiring ideas from the author himself.
Then, stating the importance of implanting firm, universal principles in each individual, he proceeded to expound the Seven Habits. Namely, they are these: each individual need to manifest subjectivity, to commence matters with purposes, to give priority over critical matters, to contemplate Win-Win, to understand others before they understand him/her, to obtain synergistic effects, to let him/herself grow well mentally, physically and socially.
Finally, he referred to the role of the leadership centered on the principles, effective management of time, and four important elements necessary for individuals and organizations.
Following Dr. Covey, who concluded his lectures by promising that the correct motives based on those Seven Habits work wonders, Mr. Royce Kluger, a senior consultant, encouraged the listeners to face the present economical difficulties of Japanese societies by mastering the Seven Habits.
The controlling principles of "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People", which is a management and human philosophy, surpass the realm of ordinary leadership discussions, and lead to Dr. Covey's conceptual sophistication of "The Seven Habits of conceptual Highly Effective People". Family, which is the exemplification of this conceptual sophistication, lets Dr. Covey believe that the Seven Habits find their best school in families, in which people grow up and grow their physical, mental, social and intellectual aspects.
Referring to world histories, in which no societies ever survived by disregarding the importance and value families expressed, Dr. Covey, a father of nine, puts forward a lot of suggestions.
